Details: $59+BF, cornerhotel.com It’s a good week for live, energetic pop, with two offbeat acts bouncing onto Melbourne stages.

At the Northcote Social Club, Brisbane quintet The Trouble With Templeton will launch its new single Like A Kid – a surprisingly muscular chunk of power pop.

On the face of it, they’re working a similar seam of indie rock to Sydneysiders Boy & Bear, but there’s something a little wilder and more interesting going on here.

Even more exciting is the long-awaited return of American twee popsters They Might Be Giants.

Into their fourth decade, the group’s live shows are still a dizzying sugar rush of punky arrangements and irresistible melodies.

Birdhouse in Your Soul remains one of the most joyous, smile-inducing tracks ever laid down.
