EPPING state highway patrol will move to Greensborough as part of the Epping police station’s $2 million refurbishment.
Inspector Bob Dykstra said the Epping station was “bursting” with staff and had to make room for 20 protective services officers to patrol train stations in Epping, South Morang, Thomastown and Lalor, as well as transit police moving to the area.
He said the Epping highway patrol unit was split between Epping and Diamond Creek because of a lack of room.
Plans were being drawn up for a new building at the Greensborough police station to house all 32 members of the highway patrol and their vehicles.
Mr Dykstra said the highway patrol was expected to move in 2014.
“This will free space up [in Epping police station], which will undergo a renovation and refitting,” he said.
