Whittlesea winemaker on Trak for success

Michael Collins has reason to celebrate — he has just won a $5000 award to attend a winemakers conference in California.

The 37-yearold is the vineyard manager at Yarra Glen’s Train Trak winery and is studying a bachelor of viticulture at the Epping campus of the Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE .

The Whittlesea resident is one of 147 NMIT students who received almost $200,000 in grants from the institute for study tours interstate and overseas.

Collins will attend the 64th National Conference of the American Society for Enology and Viticulture in Monterey, California.

He will also visit wineries in the Napa Valley, one of the world’s leading wine-making regions.
