Teen chased in Epping after refusing chubby man’s advances

POLICE fear a man who chased a teenage girl in Epping after asking her for a date may strike again.

The man, aged between 25 and 30, approached the schoolgirl in Cooper Street outside the Northern Hospital about 3pm on March 26, Senior Constable Kate Glover said.

She said the man repeatedly asked the girl out, persisting even after she refused and walked away. He then started following her.

Senior Constable Glover said the girl became so frightened that she ran but the man chased her. He followed her across Cooper Street and across a paddock into Yale Drive.

Senior Constable Glover said the man did not stop until workmen in the street saw the distressed girl and intervened.

“The girl was concerned for her safety. She did not know this man,” she said.

“The police are concerned that this may happen again and appeal for anyone with information about the man to contact us.” The man is described as “chubby” with tanned skin and short black hair.

He was wearing black tracksuit pants, a grey long-sleeve T-shirt and runners.

Anyone with information should call Senior Constable Kate Glover on 9409 8174 or phone Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
