South Morang retirement village embraces puppy love

It’s a “dog’s life” living in a South Morang retirement village and residents wouldn’t have it any other way. The village is home to more than 200 people and 20 pets, including 17 dogs, two cats and a bird. Arilla Village celebrated a “four-legged friends festival” last week because pets are part of the community.

John and Maggie Hadley (pictured) have their two fox terriers Cindy, 13, and her son, Black Boy, 10, with them, while their horse Hazel, 19, is on agistment nearby. “They wake us up in the morning for a walk, and take us for a walk in the afternoon, they keep us active,” John says.

Village manager Karen Tripney says pets are part of the village’s health and well-being program to keep residents active, healthy and happy.
