Vintage ute’s just beaut

The unveiling of Holden’s new VF Commodore isn’t stirring up car collector Don Urquhart. He’s a “Ford man” but more than that, he hates new cars but relishes vintage models. The retired Doreen plumber’s love affair with old cars started almost 20 years ago when he bought a 1946 Ford ute freighter with running boards, huge wheel covers and a shiny vertical grille. He spent four years restoring it to its original black and red paint job and added two more cars to his collection, including a 1950 Morris commercial truck, just like the one his father bought new in 1949 and used as a work vehicle for his own plumbing business.
