Epping fire forced evacuations at Northern Hospital

THE massive fire which hit Epping and threatened Campbellfield forced Northern Hospital staff working in external buildings to be evacuated into the hospital’s main building.

Northern Health’s acting Chief Executive officer Robynne Cooke said staff working in external buildings, including a child care centre, have been evacuated into the hospital’s main building.

She said the main building was not in danger but everyone in buildings on the periphery of the site had been moved to the actual hospital. No patients have been evacuated, she said.

“We are in a full Code Brown incident management scenario. We have set up an incident control centre and are working with amublance, fire brigade and police.”

She said families visiting patients had been told Cooper Street was blocked and they would have to find an alternative route, while staff who lived locally were concerned about their properties.
