Not a drop of water is wasted at Epping Views Primary School, which has won a five-star sustainability rating. The school is Victoria’s ResourceSmart School of the Year thanks to its work in conserving water, reducing waste and other sustainable measures. Principal Pauline Kubat says every teacher and student is assigned to one of four sustainability action teams at the school. Northern Metropolitan MLC Craig Ondarchi described the school as “innovative”. “Their programs and initiatives have resulted in the reduction of landfill waste by 24 per cent and water consumption per student by 64 per cent over the past year, even with student numbers increasing,” he says.
