Young guns teams named

Several locals have been named in the Young Gun Series which will be played across the next fortnight.

The two-match talent showcase set to again feature a host of Victoria and Tasmania’s top prospects eligible for the AFL mid-season rookie draft.

The series will pit the Young Guns against Victoria Metro and Victoria Country under-18 teams at Werribee’s Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval.

The Young Guns will take on Victoria Metro on Saturday, April 27 from 11am. The match will be followed be a clash between the Young Guns and Victoria Country on Sunday, May 4 from 10.30am.

Selection in the Young Guns is based on nominations submitted by AFL club recruiters. Victorian Football League clubs and Coates Talent League programs also assist with the selection process.

Players selected in the Young Guns compete in the VFL or as overage players in the Coates Talent League boys competition.

Calder Cannons’ Gus Papal, Northern Knights’ Hugh White, Western Jets’ Ayden McCarroll and Williamstown’s Lucas Impey have been selected.

For the Victoria Metro and Victoria Country under-18 teams, the Young Guns Series provides opportunities for players to trial for selection in the final teams to compete at the AFL under-18 National Championships.

Northern Knights’ Tyson Gresham, Sebastian Murphy and Mitchell Moate, Calder Cannons’ Hussien El Achkar, Adam Sweid, Jackson Bird, Cooper Herbert and Jackson Barber, and Western Jets’ Thomas McGuane, Oskar Ainsworth, James McDaid and Maculi Buck are all named in the Vic Metro team.
