Action kicked off on the weekend in the new season of the Cricket Victoria Women’s Community Cricket competition.
After a delayed start due to COVID-19, teams across all grades were ready to hit the field in the T20 format.
In the shield competition, Greenvale Kangaroos made their debut in the higher grade against Burwood.
The Kangaroos won both the T20 and one-day titles in the north-west A competition last season.
Burwood made 5-125 from its 20 overs. It was all single wicket takers for the Kangaroos.
The Kangaroos finished just short, making 4-115.
Rebecca Lines finished 40 not out.
Caroline Springs, which finished runners-up in the north-west B competition last season, has stepped up a grade also.
The Falcons made a winning start against Melbourne University in the north-west A competition.
Melbourne University made 5-77 from its overs, with Shelley Carton taking two wickets for the Falcons.
The Falcons made the runs with ease, with young gun Amelia Sevior making 39 not out as they finished 2-81.
Hoppers Crossing suffered a first up loss to Ballarat Women’s.
Ballarat made 3-146 from its 20 overs. Emily Turnbull took two wickets for the Cats but was expensive.
The Cats put up a fight, but were restricted to 4-106 in reply. Kayla Koropeckyj finished 51 not out.
It’s a new look north-west B competition this season, with several sides joining from other competitions.
Last season’s Victorian Turf Cricket Association premiers Westmeadows and runners-up Keilor have come across.
Sydenham-Hillside, which was also in that competition, has made the switch.
Clifton Hill and Holy Trinity previously played in the North Metro Cricket Association women’s competition.
Melton Centrals, which made the one-day competition grand final last season, started the T20 season with a win.
Centrals restricted Sydenham-Hillside to 7-47. Amy Hibbert and Tara Keenan took two wickets each.
Centrals finished 0-48, with Anna Edmonds 32 not out.
Keilor got off to a winning start beating Greenvale Kangaroos (2).
The Blues made 6-98, before restricting the Kangaroos to 5-76.
Craigieburn had an easy win against Coburg (3).
The Eagles restricted Coburg to 9-58. Craigieburn made the runs quickly, finishing 2-59 with seven overs remaining.
In a battle between two new sides, Holy Trinity beat Westmeadows.
The Warriors made 6-76 with skipper Danielle Linton finishing 24 not out.
Holy Trinity made the runs in the 14th over, finishing 2-77.
St Anthonys was beaten by Clifton Hill (2).
Altona Roosters had the bye.
