After a tough first half of the National Premier League 2 west season, Whittlesea Ranges and coach Gianfranco Impellizzeri have parted ways.
With just three wins from 14 matches and sitting ninth on the table, Impellizzeri decided on Sunday to step away from the role.
Impellizzeri told Star Weekly that the two parties came to a “mutual recognition” that they were heading in different directions.
He said there had been a few issues and that injuries hadn’t helped things either.
“Sometimes it doesn’t work out.”
It was Impellizzeri’s first season at the Ranges, having taken Dandenong Thunder to the NPL2 East title last year.
Ranges director of football Sergio Costanzo said in a statement that it was a mutual decision to go different ways.
“We are pleased to have been able to come to an amicable arrangement with Gianfranco, so both parties can now move forward,” the statement said.
“We wish Gianfranco all the best in his future career within the game and thank him for his efforts.”
The club will make an announcement on a replacement for Impellizzeri shortly.
The change of coach came following the team’s 1-0 loss to Box Hill United on Saturday night.
The loss leaves the Ranges sitting second bottom, five points clear of Sunshine George Cross.
