Whitcroft named new Pingers coach

Epping has appointed the experienced Greg Whitcroft as coach of the club for 2017.

The Northern Football League division 3 side appointed the former Diamond Creek and Northcote Park coach on Wednesday night.

More recently, Whitcroft has been a senior assistant coach at Montmorency.

Pingers president Stu Chambers said they had been speaking to Whitcroft for a while about taking on the job, with it becoming official in the last 24 hours.

He will replace Steve Power after the club decided not to reappoint the grand final coach.

The Pingers lost the division 3 grand final to Reservoir by 29 points.

“Greg has been around the Diamond Valley and then Northern Football League for a while,” Chambers said.

“We obviously had a decent year this year and Greg will come in with a new  group and we expect to play finals next season.

“There’s a good young group of players and a  couple of older players at the club, who performed well this year and helped out the young guys.”

Reserves coach Leigh Tarrant has been reappointed.

Chambers said the club had retained most of its playing list for next season, saying the club was in good shape for 2017.

The Pingers have lost one big name with captain and division 3 best and fairest winner Daniel Moore looking to try his game at a higher level.

“Daniel is going to try his luck at Bundoora in division 1,” Chambers said.

“We wish him the best of luck. He is a great bloke with a high standing in the competition. “
