Westmeadows Cricket Club has plans to field a women’s side for the first time this season – but it needs a coach.
With the introduction of a Victorian Turf Cricket Association Women’s competition, the Warriors have decided it’s the perfect time to expand.
Warriors president Jeff Hubbard said the club was focussed on providing a pathway for female cricketers.
“We’re looking at having under-13 and under-15 girls’ teams and they need a team to progress into,” he said.
“They will be a pathway from Milo cricket to under-10s, then under-13s, under-15s and women’s cricket all at the same club.”
Hubbard said that before they could progress any further with their plans, they would like to have a coach on board.
He said they had put feelers out, but had yet to find the right person.
“We’ve been working really hard speaking to people about the job,” he said.
“We need to find someone to the lead the program and be involved behind the scenes in setting it up – maybe someone who has experience playing at a higher level that is ready to come back to a local club and has coaching aspirations.
“We would love a playing coach, but if the right non-playing coach came about we would be happy, too.”
Hubbard said there would be a significant financial package for the right coach.
He said the club wanted the senior side to be competitive from the start, not just making up the numbers.
Several women from around the club have already expressed some interest in playing.
