Westmeadows overcame some wayward goal kicking early on, to come home strong against Oak Park on Anzac Day in Essendon District Football League division 1.
In front of a massive crowd at Willowbrook Reserve, including Brownlow Medalist Dustin Martin, the two teams put on a show early on with some really good football.
The difference though, was on the scoreboard with the Kangaroos kicking 5.2 to the Tigers 2.5.
The Tigers wayward goal kicking kept the Kangaroos in front at the main break, as they led by 12 points, despite the Tigers having more scoring shots.
The Tigers lifted another level in the third quarter, kicking 4.7 and took the lead late in the quarter.
It took until the last quarter, but the Tigers finally got some reward for their hard work kicking five goals straight to seal the 14.17 (101)-12.7 (79) win.
Dean Clare was named best on ground kicking six goals against his former side. Clare has 15 goals in three games for the Tigers and leads the division goal kicking.
Ben Drummond was also handy up forward kicking three goals, while Brad Sutcliffe was strong down back.
Dane Swan, in his second and possibly last game for the Tigers, kicked two goals and had 25 possessions and was named among his side’s best players.
The win moves the Tigers into the top four, with two wins from their first three matches.
For the Kangaroos, it continues their tough start to the season. They sit bottom without a win from their first three matches.
