Warriors looking for more players

Westmeadows is keen to further builld its all-abilities cricket side for the upcoming season.

The only all-abilities club in Hume and one of not many in Melbourne’s north, the club is keen to attract some new players to the side.

Warriors’ Jeff Hubbard said a lot of people don’t even know they have a team and the wider competition which was set up to give more people and opportunity.

“We want to put it on the radar to new people,” he said. “I posted in a lot of community groups and we’ve got two new people come to training.”

There’s different divisions to cater for a number of disabilities.

The Warriors play in a division for intellectual disabilities, which is still to be finalised.

Hubbard said the association does a good job of putting competitive sides together.

He said the side was really important for the community.

“We’ve got a mainstream program and all abilities program at the club,” he said. “We’re one club, one community.

“I think it’s great to have a close club that connects to the local community.”

The season kicks off on October 21 and there’s matches every fortnight.

The side plays six to eight games a season on Sundays. It trains on Monday nights.

“Everybody with an intellectual ability is available,” he said.
