Cricketers finally took to the field in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association on Sunday, but it wasn’t a good day for Westmeadows, Greenvale Kangaroos, Craigieburn and Tullamarine.

With rain having played havoc throughout the season so far, players were itching to get out and have a hit.

Heavy rain during the week meant Saturday’s matches were called off and postponed to the first reserve day.

It was a doubleheader weekend for the top four grades and the rain held off long enough for Sunday’s matches to go ahead.

In the division 1 north competition, Westmeadows faced top of the table Glenroy.

While the Warriors entered the match completing just one of four matches, Glenroy had won all three of its completed matches.

Glenroy continued that form, beating the Warriors.

Glenroy made 8-141 from its overs, with Dean Pitts taking three wickets for the Warriors.

In reply, the Warriors made 8-127.

Craigieburn fell six runs short of victory against PEGS in their one-day match.

PEGS made 7-150 from its over, with Josh Eaton taking three wickets for Craigieburn.

It went down to the wire, with Craigieburn bowled out for 145 with three balls remaining.

Sammy Laffan and Adam Davies top scored for Craigieburn with 39 apiece.

The loss is the Eagles first for the season.

Greenvale Kangaroos remain winless after a big loss to St Francis de Sales.

The Kangaroos were bowled out for 117 with an over remaining in their innings. Matthew Kent, coming in down the order, top scored with 31 not out.

St Francis de Sales didn’t need long to get the runs, finishing 1-118 with 11 overs remaining.

In division 1 west, Tullamarine lost to Aberfeldie.

Electing to bat, Aberfeldie made 6-178 from its overs.

Tullamarine put up a good chase, but fell short, bowled out for 156 in the final over.

David Zahorodni starred for the Demons, taking two wickets and then making 71.

Tullamarine sits third with two wins after five rounds.

Jacana had another weekend off, with division 5 not having a game on Sunday.
