Two-day cricket returns to the DVCA

Laurimar will need quick wickets if it’s to get its first win of the Diamond Valley Cricket Association Money Shield season this Saturday.

Sides were finally back on the park for the first time since day one of the season on Saturday after heavy rain and unplayable grounds resulted in rounds being called off.

It was also a return to two-day cricket for the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic.

After day one of its clash with Plenty, the Power is on the back foot.

The Power were bowled out for 125 in the 36th over.

Captain Andrew Crook top scored with 34, but he was the only player to reach 20. Jackson Gavin took 4-14 for Plenty.

Plenty set about chasing down the runs on day one and ended the day on top. It will resume at 6-109.

Corey Lovelock has three wickets so far for Plenty.

Bundoora United has already claimed first innings points against the Lalor Stars.

The Stars were bowled out for just 74 in 41 overs.

Jackson Hayse made 26, but only two other players reached double figures.

Scott Barnett was the main destroyer with the ball, taking 5-14 off 13 overs.

It didn’t take long for the Bulldogs to get the runs, declaring at 4-141 after 28 overs. Captain-coach Joel Thompson finished unbeaten on 62.

The Stars will resume at 1-16 in their second innings.

Bundoora had a day out with the bat against Mernda on Saturday. The Bulls making a massive 7-341

Prince Singh was the star of the show with a massive 193 off 244 balls which included eight fours and 11 sixes.

Stuart Wright took three wickets for the Demons.

Eltham was bowled out for 246 against Montmorency, while Bundoora Park’s and Lower Eltham’s match didn’t go ahead.

In the Barclay Shield, Epping finished day one against Heidelberg at 9-177.

Nathan Gardiner top scored with 31.

In other matches, Rosanna made 9-195 against Diamond Creek, North Eltham Wanderers are 2-10 in reply to Banyule’s 166 and Macleod is 2-56 in reply to Research Eltham Collegians 133.
