Tullamarine is starting to get some cohesion on the field and its showing in the Essendon District Football League division 1 competition.
The Demons had a tough start to life under Zack Carey but have now won two of their past three matches.
Carey said it was nice to feel like things were starting to come together now.
“We’re slowly starting to get players back,” he said. “We’ve been crucified with injuries for much of the year.
“It’s given a lot of guys opportunities though. We are getting more stable with the team and hopefully we grow throughout the year.”
Carey said they had as many as 11 of their best players out in the early rounds.
While it was tough he said they had unearthed some home grown players and under-18s who would be better for having a crack at senior footy.
“We’ve definitely a couple for the rest of this year and the coming years which is really good,” Carey said.
On Saturday, the Demons upset Avondale Heights in tough conditions.
For Carey, it’s a side he’s known well having coached against them the past few years in premier division.
“They still have some high quality players,”
Carey said they were able to execute the game plan for four quarters, the first time that they’ve done that this season.
The Demons led at every break with the margin just four points heading into the final quarter.
The Demons kicked the only two goals of the final quarter to seal the win, 9.5 (59)-6.8 (44).
It was a big day for the Demons at Leo Dineen Reserve as the club hosted its past players day.
Shaun McKernan kicked five goals for the Demons and was one of their best.
Carey said Adam Figliola had his best game for the club, Tim Matson, Ivan Pavlovic and Brandon Marlow were other standouts.
The win moves the Demons to eighth spot with a 2-4 record.
Carey said their focus the next period of games was to build on the cohesion between the group
“We need to build those connections,” he said. “We’re still a new group coming together
“It’s not only been consistent in games but being consistent in quarters.
“We’ve seen we can match it with anyone.”
The Demons face Craigieburn this Saturday.
Carey said it would be another good challenge for them.
On Saturday, Craigieburn lost to West Coburg, 14.13 (97)-8.12 (60).
Roxburgh Park remains without a win after losing to Hillside, 10.13 (73)-10.1 (61).
In premier division, Greenvale lost to Aberfeldie while in division 2, Westmeadows finished strongly to beat the Sunbury Kangaroos.
