Tough start continues for Hume City

Hume City’s tough start to the National Premier League season continued with a big loss to Bentleigh Greens

The Greens entered the match second on the ladder and undefeated, while Hume was looking for its second win of the season.

The higher-ranked Bentleigh side was never troubled and went on to win 3-0.

The Greens opened the scoring in the 31st minute and added a second on the edge of half-time.

They made sure the three points would be heading home with them when Charlie Fry scored their third goal in the 75th minute.

The Greens’ defence continued to hold strong and deny Hume.

It was better news for Whittlesea Ranges in NPL 2 west.

The Ranges had a 4-1 win against Melbourne Victory on Saturday afternoon.

The win is just the second for the season for the Ranges and puts them back in touch with the sides in the middle of the ladder.

Both sides remain in the FFA Cup, with the fixture for the fifth round drawn last week.

Hume faces Essendon Royals and Ranges will host Yarraville FC.

Whittlesea United, one of just two FFV state league 2 sides left in the competition, face Caulfield United Cobras.

United had a good weekend in state league 2 north-west winning 5-0 against Altona East Phoenix. Baki Efe scored a hat-trick for United.

In other state league 2 north-west matches, Hume United had a 3-1 win against Fitzroy City, while Mill park lost 2-1 to Cairnlea.
