Greenvale Kangaroos hopes of a first win for the season are on hold for at least another week, after falling to a red hot Essendon on Saturday in Victorian Premier Cricket.

After showing some positive signs in their season opener, the Kangaroos were hoping to step it up at Windy Hill.

But for a second week running, the Kangaroos were left to do a lot of chasing in the field.

The Kangaroos sent Essendon in and it would be a decision that would hurt them.

While the Kangaroos got the early wicket of Aaron Ayres, the Bombers piled on the runs, making 5-290 at nearly a run a ball.

Sean McNicholl was the pick of the bowlers for the Kangaroos, taking 3-59.

The Kangaroos got off to a good start with the bat and were looking good at 0-38.

It went all-wrong from there, losing 4-12 to crumble to 4-50.

The wickets kept falling with no partnership scoring more than 20 runs after the first wicket partnership.

Eventually the Kangaroos were all bowled out for 109, with 15 overs left to spare.

Extras was the top scorer for the Kangaroos, with David Worthington the best of the batsmen with 17.

Just four players scored double figures.

The Kangaroos will play at home for the first time this season on Saturday against Kingston Hawthorn.

In other news, the Kangaroos have appointed Sri Lankan test player Kaushal Silva as coach for this season.

Silva, who arrived in the country last week, will be a playing coach.
