Following the announcement of Thomastown’s men’s coaches for the upcoming Northern Football League season, the club has announced three key signings.
Charlie Khoury has joined the club from Watsonia. Khoury is a talented young goal sneak who kicked 25 goals this season playing as a high half forward-midfielder.
Via social media the club said: “not only is he dangerous around goals but he has fantastic aerobic ability which allows him to run all day and pinch hit in the middle when required. At only 21 years of age and coming off his personal best season, Charlie wants to continue building on his strengths around goal and his midfield craft. He is excited about joining Thomastown, whom he has always admired from the outside and looks forward to helping us get back into finals football.”
Julian Janev has also signed for season 2024. Janev is a no nonsense midfielder, whose height and strength are two of his biggest asset’s. Another Mill Park junior who was part of the Northern Knights system and the Carlton academy before joining Watsonia for senior football.
“At only 20 years of age he feels he is yet to hit his peak,” the club said.
“After a few interrupted seasons due to injury he had his best season to date, finishing top 10 in the league best & fairest count from only 11 games.
“Having watched us closely over the years due to some of his best mates already being at our club, he is excited and can’t wait to put on the jumper and help our seniors get back to where they belong.”
James Lucente is also on board at the Bears for 2024.
“At only 22 years of age James has just come off a career best year in front of goal, winning the division 2 leading goal kicker award with 61 goals. His potency up forward also earned him the full forward spot in the NFNL divison 2 team of the year,” the club said.
“Another player who was involved in the Under 18s Northern Knights system and then went on to play at Macleod and the last two seasons with Watsonia.
“James is a smart and dangerous medium sized forward with the ability to always find the goals. He knows his best is still ahead of him and wants to continue working on his strengths while adding more weapons to his arsenal.”
