T20s kick off

Altona North’s Asela Aluthge was the star of the show as the Victorian Turf Cricket Association T20 competition got underway.

The competition launched with a new format, with less groups and more teams in each group.

There are now five pool rounds instead of three.

In the Waugh group, Altona North was too strong for Wyndham Vale.

Aluthge made a massive 135 from 71 balls in an innings including 14 fours and eight sixes as Altona North made 4-211.

Nathan Griffiths took two wickets for Wyndham Vale.

After putting on 29 for the opening partnership, the Vales struggled to connect.

They were bowled out for 91.

Joe Harrison took three wickets.

In the other matches in that pool, Point Cook Centrals beat Newport-Digman and

Point Cook was too strong for Williamstown Imperials.

Newport-Digman made 8-101 from their overs with Josh Kingston top scoring with 25.

The Sharks made the runs with more than four overs remaining, finishing 6-102.

Mayank Sharma top scored with 45.

Meanwhile, Point Cook made 6-143 from its overs with skipper Max Rouvray continuing his good form with 70 off 51 balls.

Lachlan Elmore took three wickets for the Imperials.

The Imperials were bowled out for 124 in reply. Joshua van Zyl top scored with 56 against his former side.

In the Border group, Seddon was too strong for Werribee Centrals.

The Centurions were bowled out for 112 in the final over.

Umair Hashmi top scored with 31.

Three players took two wickets each for Seddon.

Seddon hit the winning runs in the 16th over, finishing 5-116. Tom Foulds top scored with 49 not out off 35 balls.

The score for Seabrook and Gellibrand not available.

In the Bradman group, West Coburg St Andrews beat Footscray United

The Redbacks made 8-142 from their overs with Janith Wijesekara top scored with 29.

James Deasy and Daniel Melican took two wickets each for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs were bowled out for 52 in the 17th over. Majid Iqbal top scored with 14 as he came in at number nine.

No other player scored double figures.

Doutta Stars beat East Coburg in the other match.

Haig Fawkner had a night out with the bat, making 9-202 from its overs against the Greenvale Kangaroos in the Hassett group.

The Kangaroos made 8-117 in reply.

Jacana forfeited in its match with Oak Park St Francis de Sales in the other match of that pool.

In the Lawrie group, Sunbury got off to a winning start in its match against East Keilor. The Roar made 149 from its 20 overs with Ashan Ranaweera top scoring with 26.

East Keilor was in trouble at 8-45 before a late comeback. It fell short with East Keilor bowled out for 122. Ranaweera took 6-10 for the Roar.

Footscray Angliss forfeited against St Albans in the other match.

In the Pointing group, Bellbridge wasted little time in chasing down Sunshine Heights total.

Sunshine Heights were bowled out for 71 with Siddhant Bindroo top scoring with 13.

Bellbridge needed less than eight overs to get the runs, finishing 0-72. Arun Joiya and Daniel Spencer, made 33 each.

Laverton upset Sunshine United in the other match.

Laverton made 5-138 from its overs with several contributions throughout the order.

The Tigers lost wickets late, which proved costly as it was restricted to 6-127.

Matthew Sipala top scored with 48

The Druids came away with the win against Sunshine United in the Taylor group.

The Wizards made 5-138 from their overs with Tom Hazell-Evans top scoring with 60 not out at the top of the order.

Leo Turnbull-Gent took two wickets for the Gorillas.

Grand United lost frequent wickets throughout its innings to be restricted to 9-122.

Nilan Fernando top scored with 22.

Sunshine had an easy win against Burnside Springs United.

Burnside was bowled out for 75, with Isuru Yaddehige taking four wickets for the Crows.

The Crows lost their top order, but it didn’t matter as they finished 3-76.

There were no results available for other Benaud group matches.
