T20 action kicks off

Cricket was back on Tuesday night in the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association as the T20 competition got underway.

After two weekends of no play due to the heavy rain impacting grounds, some of the matches got underway giving some players their first chance to play this season.

There were some high scores on the opening night of the competition, led by Buckley Park which made 5-227 against Ascot Vale.

Ascot Vale was later bowled out for 92.

Merrifield Panthers got over the line against Roxburgh Park in a high scoring match. The Panthers made 3-212 on the back of 143 not out from Price Singh.

The Falcons fell just short in the run chase, finishing 6-205. Osman Younis made an unbeaten century.

Point Cook’s Ross Martin was another one in the runs, helping his side make 4-202 against Altona Sports.

Altona Sports were bowled out for 6-137 in reply. Lucas O’Neill top scored with 47. The Chargers’ Jagmeet Brar was another among the runs, making 100 not out off 42 balls to help his side beat the Darebin Chargers.

In other results, Tullamarine beat Sunshine Heights by seven wickets. The Demons chased down the runs in the second last over.

Donnybrook and the Chargers 2 game ended in a draw, with the match not completed.

Moonee Valley beat Maribyrnong Park St Marys by three runs. Moonee Valley made 7-161 before restricting to Maribyrnong Park St Mary’s 5-158.
