Super over excitement

A super over was needed to split Sydenham-Hillside and Sunshine United in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association T20 round of 16 on Thursday night.

The competition entered the knockout stage last week, with the top two teams from each pool having progressed through.

The game of the round was the Storm’s win against the Tigers.

The Storm made 8-141 after winning the toss with Cam West top scoring with 46 at the top of the order.

Three players took two wickets each for the Tigers.

The Tigers looked on track to get the runs at 3-121. The wickets started to fall and it came down to the final bowl.

Sunshine United finished 7-141 to send it into a super over. Skipper James Muirhead top scored with 34.

The Storm made 1-17 from its super over, before restricting the Tigers to 1-9.

Sydenham-Hillside will face Altona North in the next round.

Altona North caused an upset, knocking off Yarraville Club.

The Clubbers made 110 as they were bowled out with one ball remaining. Thilina Masmulla top scored with 29.

Connor Smith took three wickets for Altona North.

Thomas Taylor dominated the run chase for Altona North, finishing 79 not out as his side made 4-111.

Deer Park is also through to the next round after beating St Albans on Thursday night.

The Lions made 5-160 from their overs with Daniel Sartori making 57 not out off 49 balls.

Daniel Blatherwick took 3-46 for the Saints.

The Saints were in trouble at 3-27 and then struggled to keep up with the run rate. Despite some late runs, they fell well short making 7-113. Akila Isanka top scored with 32.

Deer Park will face Point Cook Centrals in the next round.

Point Cook Centrals had a big win against Gellibrand in the other Thursday night match.

Gellibrand made 9-119 from its overs with Callum Doyle top scoring with 64.

Max Pritchard took three wickets for the Sharks.

After losing a wicket without a run on the board, the Sharks did it with ease, finishing 2-120.

Mayank Sharma made 62 not out off 41 balls.

Westmeadows beat Maribyrnong Park St Marys to win through to the next round.

The Lions made 5-110 from their overs with Shasheen Fernando top scoring with 40 not out.

Pathum De Mel and Billy Kosteas took two wickets each.

Warriors captain-coach Donovan Pell starred with the at bat making 54 not out off 41 balls to guide his side to 6-111.

The Warriors will face the Druids in the quarter finals.

Druids beat West Coburg Andrews after a strong bowling display.

The Redbacks decided to bat and weren’t able to make the most of it.

The Wizards bowled them out for 88 in the 19th over.

Kyle Adams and Harsha De Silva top scored with 28. The Wizards shared the wickets with four players taking two each, while Michael Hay took four catches.

The Wizards got the overs with more than five overs remaining, finishing 3-89.

Subhan Ramzan made 37, while Hay finished 36 not out.

Sunshine won through with victory against Doutta Stars in a thriller.

The Crows batted first and made 5-127 from their overs with open Troy Stone top scoring with 55 not out.

At 4-100, the Stars were in the challenge but the wickets started to fall. They fell just short, finishing 9-122.

Ashen Abeykoon took four wickets for the Crows.

The Crows quarter final opponent is PEGS which is also through to the next round, accounting for Haig Fawkner.

PEGS made 9-143 with Jagadeswara Koduru tops scoring with 32.

Haig was bowled out in the 16th over for 93.

Shakeem Clarke and Rasika Batepola took three wickets each for PEGS.
