Summer smash continues

Lalor Stars and Bundoora Park opened their accounts in the Diamond Valley Cricket Association Money Shield summer smash.

Both sides had opening round byes so kicked off their competition on Tuesday night.

The Stars were at home against Mernda and got home with 10 balls remaining.

Mernda made 7-107 from its overs with Nathan Aston top scoring with 37 not out.

Ethan Baade and Riley Scott took two wickets each for the Stars.

Josh Nixon led the way for the Stars in his 100th game for the club with 41 at the top of the order.

The Stars finished 5-108.

Bundoora Park got its campaign underway against Plenty.

Plenty made 9-108 from its overs with Jake Bennett top scoring with 25.

Bronson Hill took four wickets for the Thunderbolts.

After losing two early wickets, the Thunderbolts were able to chase the runs with ease, finishing 2-112 in 15.3 overs.

Earl Dicesare scored 64 not out, while Bradley Fox finished 34 not out.

In the Mash Shield summer smash, Mill Park managed to pick up a win while Thomastown United lost to Keon Park.

South Morang was bowled out for just 80. Elakian Elango, who came in at number 10, top scored with 18.

At 1-43, the Tigers were flying before they lost three quick wickets.

They were able to recover to get the runs, finishing 3-81.

Chris Taylor finished unbeaten on 30.

Thomastown’s 7-93 proved no match for Keon Park.

Ollie Salt top scored in the Kookaburras innings before being run out.

Keon Park hit the winning runs in the 17th over with Navtez Singh finishing 32 not out.

Hurstbridge and Lower Eltham were the other winners.

In the Barclay Shield, Riverside was too strong for Rosebank in its match while Heidelberg got home in 13 overs against Diamond Creek.

The next round will be held on Tuesday night.
