South Morang, Laurimar downed by Spurs

South Morang and Laurimar will be hoping to make the most of their second chances in the Northern Football League women’s finals.

The two sides faced VU Spurs in the division 2 and division 3 semi-finals on Saturday, with the Spurs coming out on top in both games and winning through to the grand finals.

In division 2, it was one-way traffic on the scoreboard between the Spurs and Lions.

The Spurs got a jump early kicking the only six goals of the first half.

The Lions finally got their first major in the third quarter, but they trailed by 50 points at the last break.

The Spurs kicked another three goals in the last quarter.

Casey Henham was the goal scorer for the Lions, with Demi-Lee Hallett again starring in the midfield.

The Lions will face Heidelberg in the preliminary final. Heidelberg was too strong in its semi-final, beating Eltham 6.5 (41)-1.1 (7).

It was a closer affair in the division 3 semi-final between the Laurimar and the Spurs.
