Season over for Knights

It’s season over for the Northern Knights in the Coates Talent League girls competition, knocked out in the first week of finals.

The Knights were in action at Preston City Oval against the Eastern Ranges on Saturday morning.

The Ranges started the better of the sides and led by 15 points at quarter time. The margin grew to 36 at the main break with the Knights yet to hit the scoreboard.

Northern finally got a goal in the third quarter but the Ranges were able to continue to build their lead.

The Ranges finished off strongly to come away with a 12.18 (90)-1.0 (6) win.

Somer McCormack was the goalkicker for the Knights.

Meanwhile, in the boys wildcard round the Knights and Calder Cannons both suffered losses.

The Knights trailed all day against the Sandringham Dragons which were able to build a lead throughout the match on the way to a 17.8 (110)-9.3 (49).

Nick Canavan kicked two goals for the Knights.

The Cannons lost a close one with the Oakleigh Chargers.

The Chargers led all day with the Cannons never letting them break the game open.

Oakleigh was able to do enough to hold the Cannons off, winning 11.15 (81)-9.12 (66).

He was named among the best with Cooper Duff-Tytler and Oliver Watt.

The Cannons as the highest placed metro loser still progresses through to finals.
