Northern Lions are through to the grand final of the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association’s Vic Kyte Shield.

Facing fellow Hume‐based side Donnybrook, the Lions returned to form after losing its final three matches of the regular season, including one against Donnybrook.

The Lions’ decision to send Donnybrook in proved the right one as they bowled them out for just 123.

Tharaka Fernanado was the pick of the bowlers taking 4‐25, while Sach Bandara took three wickets.

In reply, the Lions lost frequent wickets and at 8‐88 looked to be heading for defeat.

But the ninth wicket partnership between Ishan Alles and Channa Surash carried the Lions over the line, Alles top‐scoring with 33 not out.

The Lions face Aberfeldie St Johns in the grand final at Anderson Reserve in Broadmeadows on Saturday and Sunday.
