Prince goes big

Making 162 as a team is seen as a respectable score in many T20 matches.

For Merrifield’s Talwinder Prince that was his individual score on Tuesday night as his side accounted for Moonee Valley in the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association T20 competition.

The Panthers made a massive 5-326 from their 20 overs.

Prince finished 162 not out off just 57 balls. He made 18 boundaries, all of them sixes.

For the man himself, he said it’s not the first time he had made an inning like that.

“I haven’t made one in Australia, but I made one when I was at home in India.

“It was a lot of fun. It’s fast paced [T20] and it’s at a real high intensity.

“The ball was coming on nicely to the bat.”

Prince said the pitches in Australia were a lot more bouncy which helped with his innings.

He said he had never seen a team score like that before.

Every single player went at more than a run a ball with Harmandeep Bhathal going for 60 off just 16 balls at a strike rate of more than 300. He hit three fours and seven sixes.

Prince said they just went for it at the end of the innings to push the score past 300.

Moonee Valley in reply, scored the exact same as Prince as it was bowled out for 162 on the final ball.

Prince also took two wickets.

The Panthers are undefeated after two rounds of the T20 competition.

Having made the move from Bundoora this season to the Panthers, Prince said he was really enjoying it.

“I moved to Bundoora two years ago and I’m now enjoying being at Merrifield,” he said.

“It’s a new club and the guys are really supportive. They are supporting me and have helped me.

“They made me T20 captain. It’s a good level and I like the company as well.”

Across the competition on Tuesday night, it was a good night for the batters, with six teams posting scores of beyond 200.
