Calder Cannons’ Georgie Prespakis is showing that football talent runs in the genes with two best on ground performances to start the NAB League Girls competition.
While older sister Madison Prespakis made a name for herself in recent years in the competition [formerly known as the TAC Cup], including sharing the league best and fairest last year, it’s Georgie’s turn to show what she can do.
After playing three games last season as a bottom age player, Prespakis has looked right at home this year as she’s become one of the Cannons key players.
After being named best on ground in round one against the Western Jets in the NAB League, Prespakis took it up another level on Saturday against the Greater Victorian Western Rebels.
The 16-year-old had the ball on a string, as she kicked seven goals in the Cannons 12.7 (79)-3.3 (21) win. It included kicking four goals in the third quarter when she was moved to full forward, having played in the midfield in the first half.
The tally of seven goals equals the record for the NAB League/TAC Cup girls competition most goals in a game, set by another Cannon and now Collingwood star Chloe Molloy.
Prespakis’ seven goals were enough to earn her best on ground honours. Felicity Theodore and Georgia Patrikios were also named in the Cannons best.
The development of Prespakis should probably come as no surprise, after she won the Essendon District Football League youth girls best and fairest award last year.
The Cannons have two wins after their first two matches to sit equal first.
They face the Dandenong Stingrays on Saturday in their next match.
The Cannons boys under-18 team will also be in action this weekend, as they kick off their season, also against the Stingrays.
