A strong start was the catalyst for the Northern Knights win against Bendigo Pioneers in the TAC Cup on Sunday.

The Knights did all the scoring in the first quarter and led by 26 points at the first break.

The Pioneers outscored the Knights in the second quarter, reducing the margin to 18 points at half-time.

The Knights took the margin back out in the third quarter, keeping the Pioneers goalless for a second quarter.

It was an even last quarter, with the Knights already having done the damage, winning 11.10 (76)-7.3 (45).

James Lucente kicked three goals for the Knights, while Ryan Gardner and Joshua D’Intinosante were the Knights’ best.

The win moves the Knights to two wins, two losses and two draws, with the side sitting seventh.

It was a tougher day for the Calder Cannons against the Geelong Falcons at Rams Arena.

After a somewhat even first half, the Falcons upped it another level in the second half.

They kicked six goals to one in the third quarter and then four goals in the final quarter to seal the 14.7 (91)-6.6 (42) win.

Sam Ramsay was the only multiple goalkicker for the Cannons, with Jack Evans, Jack Bytel and Ismail Moussa the Cannons’ best in the loss.

The Cannons sit ninth with two wins.

In the TAC Cup Girl’s competition, the Cannons couldn’t overcome a poor second quarter, losing to the Falcons, 7.4 (46)-4.2 (26).

Madison Prespakis was everywhere for the Cannons.

The Knights remain undefeated, beating the Pioneers 14.7 (91)-3.2 (20).
