Mixed state championships for Falcons and Wizards

It was a mixed Cricket Victoria under-18 state championships for Melbourne’s two northern teams.

Metropolitan Northern and Metropolitan North West both split their pool games 2-1 to finish fourth and fifth in their pool respectively, only net run rate behind second placed Metropolitan West.

The Falcons, which finished fourth, had good wins against Barwon in a high scoring match, before beating Central Highlands in their third pool game on the back of a century from Donovan Toohey.

They lost their second match to Northern Rivers.

The Wizards, looked good in two of their three matches, but a big loss to Western Spirit in the second match proved costly.

The results meant the Falcons played off in a live qualifying final, while the Wizards qualifying final was for final position.

The Falcons faced Metropolitan Outer East, which was undefeated and topped the other pool

The Falcons were bowled out for 107, with Zachary Macciocca top scoring with 33.

Metropolitan Outer East finished 5-109 making the runs with 15 overs remaining.

They then won through to the grand final, defeating Metropolitan Inner South East in the semi finals.

The Wizards lost their qualifying final to Gippsland Pride.

The Pride made 158, bowled out in the 47th over.

Four Wizards took two wickets apiece.

The Wizards managed to make 141 in their innings, bowled out for 141. Fergus O’Neill top scored.
