Mill Park put in an impressive performance against ladder leader Hoppers Crossing, but had to settle for a draw in their FFV state league 2 north-west match.

Hoping to capitalise on some strong recent form, the Parkers pushed Hoppers Crossing all game, with final scoreline reading 1-1.

Keegan Linderboom was the goal scorer for the Parkers.

Parkers coach John Kyrgios said he was happy to come away with a point, but it could have easily been more.

“We did considerably well,” he said. “I thought we had the better of the game.

“It didn’t look like the top side facing the seventh or eighth side.

“We were able to create some opportunities, but we weren’t able to finish them off.”

Kyrgios said Saturday’s game was similar to many they had played this season, with the players able to make the most of their opportunities.

“We’re getting it all together, but were not finishing well enough,” he said.

“We’ve been working on our top third for a while and it’s the hardest part. We’re getting players behind their opponents.

“We’ve got some quick players who are getting through … at least we have been creating opportunities.”

Kyrgios said they were starting to feel like they were gelling.

Having had three weeks without a game mid-season, Mill Park have two games in hand on most of their opposition.

They are in eighth spot.

“We’ve got the belief we will do better in the last eight rounds,” he said.

“We haven’t written off the season. We’re on the right track and we’ve got some unity and continuity now.”

Kyrgios said that pre-season they had aimed to finish top four, but the focus was on the long-term future of the club.

“We’re really happy with what we’re doing,” he said. “We’ve got some young and new players in the system

“We’re building the foundations – we want to be successful for many years to come.”
