Lalor Warriors start season with a win

Lalor Warriors made the most of getting on the pitch in the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association women’s T20 competition on Sunday.

Despite heavy rain the previous two days, the NWMCA decided that clubs would report to grounds for the first round of the competition.

Many matches didn’t go ahead, including all the matches in the top division, the Geoff Law Shield.

In division 2, Lalor Warriors made a winning start to the season beating Aberfeldie St Johns.

Aberfeldie St Johns made 3-93 off its 20 overs.

Paige Duson was the pick of the bowlers for the Warriors, taking 2-9 off her three overs.

The Warriors made 3-126 in reply to get the win.

Sarah Marazita made 46 not out in the win.

Barkly Street Uniting was the other winner in division 2.

In division 6. Westmeadows defeated Thomastown.

The Warriors made 2-144 before restricting Thomastown to 6-48. Erica Linehan took two wickets for the Warriors.

In the Cricket Victorian Community Cricket competition shield 3 T20 competition, Craigieburn lost to Ballarat Women’s (2).

Ballarat made 3-121 from its 20 overs, Maria Va’auli took two wickets for the Eagles.

The Eagles finished 5-90 in reply.

Meanwhile, in the Victorian Premier Cricket women’s one-day competition with a win.

After round one was washed out, the Bats took on Dandenong on Saturday.

The Panthers were bowled out for 142. Rebeka Vandort took three wickets for the Bats.

The Bats had little trouble chasing down the runs, finishing 3-143.

Jasmine Nevins top scored with 62 not out.
