Lalor United is hoping to add some more experience to its squad in the coming weeks in the FV state league 2 north west season.
It hasn’t been the start Lalor was after with just one win from their first three rounds. Coach Tony Sterjoski said it had been a bit of a tough start.
“It’s not the best start to be honest,” he said.
“The boys have been doing great thus far, but we’re lacking some experience. We’ll look at strengthening that in the coming weeks.
“We need to add some more experience as we’re a very young unit.”
Sterjoski said they had promoted some players from their reserves side, while also adding players from other clubs looking to get some senior experience.
He said many of them were playing senior football for the first time.
“Dylan Manevski and Jack Kotsopoulos. Those guys are in their early 20s.
“A lot are still learning like young Philip Dimitrovski as well.
“They’re some great young players, but most of them haven’t played against men. I can’t argue their work rate and effort, we just need more experience.”
With such a young side, Sterjoski said they weren’t expecting to contend for the title and promotion this season.
He said while it would be nice, the focus is on the future.
“This season is about building a team and hopefully next season we will be pushing for promotion.
“This year is about learning. We’re fairly confident we will do okay.”
Lalor will play their first home game this Saturday against Westgate.
It will be a big few weeks for the club with their new synthetic pitch opening as works continue on the upgrade of the HR Uren Reserve.
