Kookas, Lions in tie

Rivergum and South Morang couldn’t be split on Tuesday night in round six of the Diamond Valley Cricket Association Mash Shield summer smash.

The Kookas batted first after winning the toss and made 5-127 from their overs,

James Bonnici top scored with 37.

Karl Heckmann took 2-21 for the Lions.

The Lions were steady throughout their innings and it came down to the final ball.

Needing three to win, the Lions could only manage two, also finishing 5-127.

Heckmann top scored with 51.

Matt Perri took two wickets for the Kookas.

The Kookas remain on top of the pool B competition.

Elsewhere, Thomastown United got the win against crosstown rival Thomastown.

The Kookaburras made 6-141 for their overs, with Jason Lalios top scoring with 80.

Shahid Ahmed took 4-20 for Thomastown.

Ahmed then set the tone for Thomastown with the bat.

He made 85 not out but it wasn’t enough as Thomastown finished 3-129.

In pool C, Laurimar got the win against Hurstbridge.

The Power made 5-129 from its overs with skipper Luke Richardson top scoring with 45.

Despite taking 11 off the final over, Hurstbridge fell short, finishing 7-124.

In pool D, Denis beat Old Ivanhoe Grammarians.

In the Barclay Shield competition, Bundoora remains without a win after losing to Riverside.

Riverside made 5-163 from its overs.

It was all single wicket takers for the Bulls, with 10 players having a bowl.

The Bulls had a solid start and at 1-65 had a good platform.

The wickets started to fall and the Bulls finished 6-115.

Jason Kaminski top scored with 47.

Epping and Bundoora United were among the teams to have byes on Tuesday night.

In the Money Shield, Lalor Stars had a good win against Plenty.

The Stars made 6-147 from their overs with Josh Nixon top scoring with 48 opening the innings.

At 0-56, Plenty was on top.

It lost 5-9 to give the Stars control with the side eventually bowled out for 136.

Riley Scott took 3-25 for the Stars.

In the other match on Tuesday night, Bundoora Park was too good for Greensborough.

The Thunderbolts made 122 as they were bowled out on the final ball.

Bronson Hill top scored with 29.

While Greensborough had wickets in the shed, the total proved too much as it finished 4-94.

Bundoora Park sits top of the group after three matches, ahead of the Stars.

The winners on Tuesday night in pool A were Lower Plenty and Eltham.
