Kilmore’s move to the Northern Football League is a step closer, with club members supporting the push to leave the Riddell District Football Netball League.
As previously reported by the Star Weekly, the Blues approached the NFL about switching competitions next season.
Earlier this month the NFL Board agreed to recommend to all NFL clubs that Kilmore be accepted into the competition for season 2016.
NFL affiliates will have to vote in favour of Kilmore joining the league before the matter can progress any further.
If successful, the Blues will play in division 3.
On Friday night, Blues members voted 61-8 in favour of switching to the NFL.
Club president Dave Milne said there was a lot of support for the move.
“We are looking at having a change and something different,” he said.
“We want a brighter future for the club moving forward.”
The Blues have won only two senior games across the last three RDFNL seasons.
The club met with AFL Goldfields, the governing body of the RDFNL, early last week to talk about the move.
“The meeting was what we expected and they conveyed to us they wanted us to stay in the competition,” Milne said.
Milne said the next step was to wait for the NFL clubs to vote on the matter.
He said the netball side of the club would also continue.
The NFL runs a netball competition on Friday nights which doesn’t run side by side with the football like in the RDFNL.
