Kangaroos pay for batting collapse

A batting collapse cost Greenvale Kangaroos dearly in their first outing of the Victorian Premier Cricket season.

After round one was washed out, the Kangaroos faced Melbourne on the weekend.

Melbourne elected to bat, with the Kangaroos starting strong with two quick wickets to have Melbourne in trouble at 2-22.

Melbourne were able to rally finishing with 6-217.

Sean McNicholl was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-36.

The Kangaroos started their innings strongly.

Openers Jack Potticary (56) and Joshua Trembearth (66) made 137 for the first partnership.

Melbourne responded and put the pressure on.

A batting collapse meant the Kangaroos lost 10-38 to be bowled out for 175, with 13 balls remaining.

The Kangaroos will face St Kilda on the pitch this weekend,

In the women’s competition, Plenty Valley lost to Dandenong.

Plenty Valley batted first, getting off to a slow start before Jasmine Nevins (45) and Aanliya Cheeran (53) steadied the side.

The Bats were bowled out with 164, having faced 43.2 overs.

Dandenong took the win with nearly 14 overs remaining, finishing up with 4-168.

Cheeran took two wickets for the Bats.

Plenty Valley will play on home soil this weekend, facing Ringwood.
