Greenvale Kangaroos produced their most complete day for the Victorian Premier Cricket season so far on Saturday to be on top against Essendon.
After not getting on the pitch last week and having the points awarded to St Kilda during the week, the Kangaroos could have dropped their heads.
Instead they produced their second 300-plus score of the season, this time against the Bombers.
Batting out their overs, the Kangaroos finished 7-309.
Kangaroos coaching director Ash Cavigan said they were thrilled with that performance.
“It was an enjoyable day,” he said. “It was a pretty complete day.
“Justin [Galeotti] and Will [Luxton] started pretty well. Shame that Will couldn’t go on with it and get a century.
“Ryan [Stingel] played one of his best innings he has played and finished one shot of 100. That was devastating for everyone.
“We then had some good contributions in the middle which is something we’ve been working on.
“Ben Cliff and Bernard Kelly then got us past 300.”
Stingel finished with 99 off 138 balls, while Lucton made 82 off 131 balls.
With a few former Bombers at the Kangaroos including Cavigan they’re keen to get the win on the board this week.
It will be the Kangaroos second win of the season if they can get the job done.
“They’ve got a couple of good players,” Cavigan said. “Connor Poulton is in good form and Josh Trembath on his day goes alright.
“Liam Molloy is a good player their import has been playing well. Hopefully we can be as good with the ball as we were with the boys.
“We’ve set it up, we now have to get the job done.”
In women’s premier cricket, Plenty Valley lost to Geelong on Duckworth-Lewis-Stern.
Geelong made 218 with the Bats 7-142 after 45 overs when the game was called off.
Rituja Talekar top scored for the Bats with 43 not out.
In the premier women’s seconds competition, the Kangaroos suffered a big loss against Melbourne,
Melbourne made 5-270 with the Kangaroos bowled out for 94 in reply.
