The Greenvale Kangaroos got their first ever win in the Victorian Premier Cricket women’s competition.
Playing in the premier seconds competition, the Kangaroos were able to get across the line against Prahran on Sunday.
The Kangaroos made 177 with Catherine Morrow top scoring with 71.
They then bowled Prahran out for 118.
Caitlin Shaw was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4-11.
In the women’s premier first grade, Plenty Valley’s match against Box Hill didn’t go ahead with the two teams sharing the points.
The Bats remain on top of the table.
In the men’s premier cricket, the Kangaroos went agonisingly close to getting their first win of the season on Sunday.
In a weekend, where teams played two one-day matches, the Kangaroos lost to both Geelong and the Camberwell Magpies.
On Saturday, the Kangaroos fell short against a strong Geelong side.
Geelong were bowled out for 232 in the final over of the innings. Nick McGuane was the pick of the bowlers for the Kangaroos with 4-59.
The Kangaroos got off to a solid start but them started to lose wickets as partnerships were starting to get going,
They were bowled out for 190 in the 48th over. Josh Tremberth top scored with 49 at the top of the order.
The Kangaroos didn’t have long to dwell on the performance as they were back on the pitch the following day against the Magpies.
In a match reduced to 48 overs a side, the Magpies made 9-190 from their overs.
William Dundon took 4-28 for the Kangaroos.
The Kangaroos again got off a solid start and were looking good at 3-115. The wickets then started to fall.
When they lost 4-23 the game was over, with the side bowled out for 178 with eight balls remaining.
Conroy Burton top scored with 48.
The Kangaroos this week face Richmond.
