Jets upset Mores

Greenvale is showing its a finals contender in the Essendon District Football League premier division.

The Jets have put together some strong performances in the recent weeks but on Saturday produced their best performance of the season so far to knock off Strathmore.

In a low scoring affair with the rain and the wind, the two teams traded the lead throughout the game.

The Jets led by a goal at quarter time, with the Mores leading by that margin at half time.

The Jets kicked the only two goals of the third quarter to regain the lead and take a narrow seven point lead into the final change.

It would be the Jets that would get over the line with one goal apiece in the final. The Jets won, 6.9 (45)-5.6 (36).

Jonathan Keratianos kicked three goals for the Jets in the win and was named their best.

Trent Warren and Jett Ladewig were other standouts for the Jets.

The Jets sit in fifth spot now only percentage behind the Mores.

The Jets this week face third placed East Keilor.

Meanwhile in division 1, Westmeadows upset Hillside to get its second win of the season.

The Tigers broke the game open in the first half to lead by five goals at the main break.

The Sharks responded in the second half, but the damage had already been done with the Tigers winning 8.6 (54)-5.9 (39).

Rex Hickman kicked four goals for the Tigers. Kieran Gallagher was named the Tigers best.

The win moves the Tigers out of the relegation zone, just percentage ahead of second bottom Tullamarine.

Craigieburn got an important win against Glenroy to further itself away from the bottom pack.

The Eagles led 69-3 at quarter time and that would be the key in the 19.7 (121)-9.14 (68) win.

Jake Carlisle kicked seven goals in a best on ground performance.

The Eagles are now up to seventh on the ladder.

Tullamarine’s struggles continued with a close loss to Keilor Park.

Not much separated the two teams through the first three quarters with the Demons leading by three points.

The Devils kicked four goals to two in the final term to come away with a 9.7 (61)-7.10 (52) win.

Roxburgh Park proved no match for Deer Park in their division 1 match.

The Lions got out to an early lead and while the Magpies came back in the second quarter, the Lions still led.

The margin blew out to 42 points at three quarter time, with the Lions doing enough in the final quarter to win, 15.13 (103)-10.5 (65).

Harley Short was the Magpies best.
