Greenvale coach Darren Bewick is hoping that his side’s poor performance against Strathmore is a one off in the Essendon District Football League premier division.
The Jets had chances to win in round one against East Keilor, but were found wanting against the Mores on Saturday.
Bewick said they had learned a lot from their tough start to the season.
“We were disappointing on the weekend, hopefully they can bounce back this weekend,” he said
“It doesn’t get much easier against Pacco this week.
“We’ve learned a lot from the first few weeks.”
Bewick said the biggest thing they’ve found from their two contrasting performances was that they can match it with the top sides when they play well.
He said the test is for them to do it on a regular basis.
“We had chances to win the game in the first week,” he said.
“The first game we couldn’t win and the second game we were disappointed in the effort.
“When we play the way we want to, we look to be competitive and will be amongst it.
“It’s finding consistency and playing football like that. We also need to negate the way they want to play.”
The Jets chances early haven’t been helped by injuries in round one. Having picked up a number of players in the off-season, the Jets are still trying to learn how to play together.
Benjamin Speight, Matthew Bonnello and Jarryd Bonnello, Nicholas Stuhldreier, Trent Warren,Corey Baker, Judd Brewster, Benjamin and Trent Warren are among the inclusions.
“We haven’t had a chance to settle down the team,” Bewick said. “We have few VFL [Victorian Football League] players that we haven’t seen.
“We’ve also got a couple of players coming back from long term injuries. Hopefully we can settle the team down.
“We’ve got six to eight, nearly even close to half the team that is new. What it has done has made there competition for spots.”
For Bewick the focus is simple for a side that finished seventh with six wins and two draws last season.
“My goal is for the team to improve and be competitive every week,” he said.
“Hopefully the last game we played against Strathmore was a one off and we can find form for the remainder of what is to come.”
