Jets finally get another win

Greenvale is finally back on the winners list as it accounted for a struggling East Keilor in the Essendon District Football League premier division.

It was a battle between the bottom two teams and a must win game for the Jets.

They started strongly and led by 42 points at quarter time and were able to more than double that heading into half time after kicking nine second quarter goals.

The Jets were able to still build the lead in the next two quarters on the way to a 27.18 (180)-5.3 (33) win.

The Cougars kicked their highest score since round one.

Josh Porter kicked 10 goals for the Jets in a best on ground performance, while Ben Speight kicked five goals.

Daniel Trifunovic and Blake Justice also had strong games.

The Jets remain second bottom on the table with eight points, two games outside the top five after eight games.

In another positive for the Jets, young ruck-forward Riley Leedham became the last player to make his Victorian Football League debut.

He played for Essendon on Friday.

In division 1, Roxburgh Park has a lot to do if it’s to avoid relegation at the end of the season.

The Magpies faced second bottom side Moonee Valley on Saturday in an important game in the context of the season.

Moonee Valley led at each of the breaks and managed to push the margin to 28 points heading into the final quarter.

The Magpies kicked the only three goals of the final quarter but their comeback fell short as they lost 9.12 (66)-8.11 (59).

Luke Smith, Jack Elliott and Zane Terranova were named the Magpies best.

The Magpies now sit three games behind Moonee Valley, Tullamarine and Craigieburn after eight rounds,

Both Tullamarine and Craigieburn also had losses on Saturday.

The Demons lost to Taylors Lakes, 12.16 (88)-11.5 (71), while Craigieburn lost to Hillside, 15.15 (105)-7.9 (51).
