Jacana’s tough day

Jacana is hoping for a miracle of Saturday as it hopes to snatch victory from the hands of defeat against Melton Centrals in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association Russell Pollock Shield Division 5.

The Jaguars had a nightmare day one of the match and will resume at 8-56 still needing another 182 runs for first innings points.

Jaguars’ captain Brett Jensen said the day had started off on a solid note before a few things went wrong and left them in a disastrous situation.

“Things didn’t go our way and in the end we’re not where we want to be,” he said.

“They had one guy who had a day out.

“We’re not giving up hope. We’ll give a good crack and you don’t know what can happen. It’s a funny game cricket, hopefully we can turn it around.”

Jensen said they always expected it would take some time for the side to gel together, with several inclusions.

He said the current game was the first time they had the whole team together.

Alfassy Mohamed is coaching the side for the first time this year.

Kasun Mahela and Sajith Dissanayaka have joined the club, while Praneeth Jayasundera has returned.

Rhys Evans has committed full time, after only playing a few matches last season due to other commitments.

The return of Jayasundera is a massive one for the club.

“We’re getting the team gelling together with a lot of players, didn’t do preseason.

“We’re getting matches into a few guys. We’ve got PJ back into the side this week.

“PJ is a bonus to get back. He gives a little bit of more leadership around the place.

“Everyone knows his talent it’s good to have him back and it’s about him enjoying his cricket again.”

Jensen said he was hopeful that they would gel in the next couple of weeks and start seeing some of the results they were hoping for.

“We have a very talented side.

“What happened last week, we don’t think it is the norm.”
