Jacana misses out in a thriller

Jacana was on the wrong side of a thriller against Aberfeldie Park in Victorian Turf Cricket Association Russell Pollock Shield division 5.

The match went down to the final over, with Aberfeldie Park coming the victor by three runs.

Batting first, Aberfeldie Park was bowled out for 161 with an over remaining.

Rhys Brown was the pick of the bowlers for the Jaguars, taking 3-32 off eight overs.

The Jaguars got off to a good start in their innings, before losing two wickets to slip to 2-39. That soon became 4-69.

The Jaguars continued to push and at 5-155 looked on track for victory.

Disaster struck, with the loss of four quick wickets ending the Jaguars’ momentum.

They finished 9-158, four runs short of victory.

Despite the loss, the Jaguars remain in fourth.

It was doubleheader weekend in both the division 1 north and west competitions.

In the west competition, Craigieburn had a tough weekend.

Looking in control after day one against Royal Park/Brunswick, the Eagles let slip a chance to return to the win list.

Chasing 161, the Eagles were all out for 151. Bageshwar Bisht played a lone hand for the Eagles with 87 not out at the top of the order.

The weekend got even tougher, with the Eagles falling to West Coburg in a one-dayer on Sunday.

West Coburg made 9-119 from its overs. That proved too much for the Eagles, who were bowled out for 90.

Westmeadows didn’t have the best weekend either, with a loss and draw.

Chasing 242 against PEGS, the Warriors were bowled out for 191.

They had to settle for a draw on Sunday in their one-dayer with Haig Fawkner.

The game didn’t get a result with players having to leave the field during the game because of the heat.

The Warriors were in trouble at 4-45, chasing 7-193.

In the west division, Tullamarine and Greenvale Kangaroos both had a loss and draw for the weekend.

The Demons were bowled out for 212 in reply to Laverton’s 9-256 on day two of their two-day match.

The Kangaroos were bowled out for 173 in reply to Altona North’s 206. Kangaroos skipper Jon Kent was the stand-out with 113.

Neither the Demons nor Kangaroos were able to get a result in their Sunday games due to the heat.
