Inaugural girls young team named

The Northern Knights have dominated selections for the inaugural Young Guns girls team which will face the Oakleigh Chargers.

The Young Guns concept was introduced in 2018 and has this year been expanded to include a girls program for the first time.

The clash between the Young Guns and Oakleigh Chargers will be played at Oakleigh’s Warrawee Park on Sunday from 12pm.

The Young Guns squad features talented draft-eligible players in their 18th and 19th year who were not selected in the Victoria Country and Victoria Metro squads for the under-18 national championships.

Many players who will represent the Young Guns featured in the Victorian state trial games earlier this year.

The Chargers are scheduled to have a bye in the Coates Talent League Girls competition this weekend to ensure they can select a full-strength team for Sunday’s match.

Calder Cannons’ Matt O’Connor will coach the Young Guns having led the boys team for the past three years.

Eight Knights players have been selected in the young guns team.

Isabella Caminiti, Paige Graham, Amina Keegan, Kira Lemire, Charli McClure, Tahlia Plunkett, Mary Robinson and Hannah Scott have been selected.

Western Jets’ Hannah Brodie, Olivia Castello and Indi Stanley, along with Calder Cannons Stephanie Mitchell and Jayla Rutley feature in the team.
