Hume City is starting to hit some form as the side progressed through to the next round of the Australia Cup.
After dropping a couple of games in a row, Hume has won its past two National Premier League matches and its past two cup matches to make it four on the trot.
Hume faced Melbourne SRBIJA on Tuesday night in the fifth round of the cup and came away with a convincing 5-0 win.
The two sides faced each other in the national stage last year as well.
Coach Riccardo Marchioli said it’s nice to put together a strong run of form.
“It was one that we should win,” he said. “The club played them in the cup last year and it was a bit of a struggle.
“It was nice to win so convincingly, especially with the younger players. It was nice.”
Marchioli said they had a number of players returning from injury so they were managing workloads, which opened the door for younger players to play on Tuesday night.
“It was a good opportunity and they did well,” he said. “We won 5-0 and should have been more convincing.”
Marchioli said it had started to come together the past few weeks with the wins now starting to get on the board.
He said injuries had hurt them early in the season. He said sometimes they had as many as seven players unavailable.
“It’s been an ever revolving door,” he said. “We have got the majority of them back, but we haven’t got them into full games yet.
“We’re in a better position and getting close to having our strongest team on the park, week in, week out
“The more weeks that go by, the healthier and more consistent results there will be.”
Marchioli said they should get the last of those players back the next few weeks and they would be fit and firing and heading in the right direction.
He said they hoped with a more settled side, more consistency would come. Hume sits in sixth spot.
“We had a lull period where we could not get a win and now we’ve got four in a row,” Marchioli said.
“We’ve managed to get into some good habits and back building towards where we want to be.”
Hume City is next in action on Monday night against Melbourne Victory.
Marchioli said they were expecting a young and energetic side.
