Hume locks in coach, core players

Hume City has a new coach onboard and has secured the signatures of some key players for next year’s National Premier League season.

With David Chick moving on, Hume has signed Riccardo Marchioli as coach for next season.

Marchioli brings plenty of experience to the role having coached at Brunswick City and in the process becoming the youngest coach in NPL Victoria history.

He later became youth coach and boys head of academy at A-League side Newcastle Jets.

Marchioli has also coached in the old Women’s Premier League competition.

“I’m humbled and excited to be joining this special club and playing group,” he said in Hume’s announcements.

“I grew up in this area and will give everything to ensure that we continue building towards achievements that the people of Hume and the Anadolu community can be proud of.”

Hume president Ersan Gulum said Marchioli brings a fresh perspective and strong alignment to the club’s new vision.

The club has started locking in some key pieces on the field.

Skipper Josh Bingham leads the signings.

“This guy doesn’t just lead by wearing the armband; he leads by example – chasing down every ball, fighting for every goal, and always putting his teammates first,” Hume said in the announcement.

“Bring on 2025 with more goals, more celebrations, and plenty more memories with Bingers next season.”

Lachie Weier is back for another season with the club saying he’s got a radar on his boot.

“Whether he’s pinging one right to someone’s feet or shutting down anyone who dares to take him on, Lachie’s here to remind everyone why that side of the pitch belongs to him,” Hume said.

Young gun Josh Okane is a key on the midfield and doesn’t stop and is set to be better with an other off season under his belt.

After returning during the 2024 season, Michael Weier has put pen to paper for season 2025.

“We’re also fairly certain he’s 100 per cent here to collect more clean sheets and make forwards question their life choices,” Hume said.

Harry Ascroft is another on board for next season.

The club has already announced one new signing with Birkan Kirdar returning to the club.

“Birkan’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary,” he said. “From making history as Melbourne Victory’s youngest debutant at just 16, to representing Australia on the international stage, he brings a wealth of experience back to Hume City Stadium.

What makes this moment truly special is Birkan’s deep roots here. With Turkish heritage and a grandfather who was one of the founders of Anadoluspor, Birkan’s connection to the club runs deep. And let’s not forget, he began his football journey right here as a junior.”
