Hume City’s Australia Cup run came to a disappointing end on Tuesday night against the lower ranked Nunawading City.
Keen to make it back to the national stage again, Hume City entered the match as favourites at Mahoneys Reserve.
It was Nunawading that scored first in the 22nd minute before making it 2-0 after 33 minutes.
So many times Hume has come from behind this season, but not on this occasion.
Nunawading put a dagger through Hume City fans hearts in the 71st minute when it scored a third before sealing the win with a fourth goal to win, 4-0.
Hume’s Harry Ascroft said on the club’s social media that it was a disappointing night for the side.
“Extremely disappointing,” he said. “We didn’t turn up tonight and we weren’t good enough.
“We were found out and very, very below our standards.
“Credit to Nunawading they came out and wanted it more. We didn’t want it.
“One game away from making the national cup and we didn’t turn up.”
Ascroft said the attention now turns to the National Premier League competition, with Hume facing Altona Magic on Saturday.
He said it was a massive game where they need to win the three points.
“It’s full focus on the league now.”
