Hume City’s National Premier League finals hopes remain in its own hands.
It hasn’t been the most consistent season results wise, but Hume still sits in sixth spot with three rounds remaining.
Coach Nick Hegarty said every match there’s something on the line.
“Everybody is fighting for something,” he said. “It’s disappointing we haven’t got the points we need, but hopefully we make finals and play at the pointy end of the season.
“We are moving in the right direction which is good.”
Hegarty pointed to their most recent game with Melbourne Knights, who have been playing for survival in the league.
The club has also been through a lot of change and presented a big challenge in the 1-1 result.
“It was a good performance and we had a lot of chances,” Hegarty said.
“We get the three points on another day. The performances we have been delivering, the game style and the passion shows.”
Hegarty said there were plenty of challenges as a coach coming in the back end of the season.
He said it was about finding out why and how things are happening and figuring out whether stuff needs to be fixed or can wait until the off season.
“There’s a lot of work as a group figuring out what is what,” he said. “We are starting to get answers and you get different answers at different stages.
“It’s been a different experience, but a positive experience.”
Hegarty said one area the club was focusing on was wanting to make sure they are bringing through talented juniors in the first team.
He said they were also looking to change the perception of the club on the outside.
There was a bye in the NPL on the weekend with the Dockerty Cup being held.
Hume though is still in action in what they were hoping would be a big day for the club.
“We are playing Melbourne Victory’s A-League side,” Hegarty said. “It’s a big opportunity to have a family day at the club.
“It’s a home game and we’re hoping to get heaps of fans there. There will be face painting, a jumping castle.
“It will also be a little opportunity to work on a few deficiencies against a great opposition, it’s a really good opportunity.
“We’re still learning about plays and taking on board things. There’s plenty of positives.”
